Having Some Fun at The Katy Home and Garden Show

Saturday was a chilly day. With temperatures in the 40’s and a brisk wind blowing, it was a great day to stay inside. So that’s just what we did. We stayed inside the Merrell Center to check out the 4th annual Katy Home and Garden Show and what a great idea that was! (I’m sure Jackie will be taking credit for it)

Understand and Improve Your Credit Score

We've all heard it a million times..."keep an eye on your credit score".  While this is sound advice, not everyone understands their credit score and what it means.  questions about credit abound.  What is a good score?  What is used to calculate a credit score?  Once I understand what my score is, how do I improve it?

Changes are Coming to FHA

The lending landscape for potential home buyers has changed once again. On Wednesday the Federal Housing Administration Commissioner announced a set of policy changes intended to strengthen the FHA’s capital reserves and manage its risk while continuing to support the nation’s housing market recovery.

Seminar Schedule for the Katy Home and Garden Show

We are just days away from the fourth annual Katy Home and Garden Show, and one of my favorite things to do while there (other than munch on those yummy cinnamon pecans) is to take in some seminars.  There is so much wonderful information shared at this event, and it is really a treat to here from the experts in their fields.  This years schedule is out and it looks like there will be plenty of interesting tips and tricks shared at this

Save Money on Property Taxes in Texas

This just in…property taxes in the state of Texas are high! I know this isn’t breaking news; it’s more a reality that we all deal with. We do pay a huge amount in taxes, but thankfully we see a benefit in services and schools. The Katy Independent School District is a great example of what a high school tax can do for an area. You can’t get around it; you get what you pay for. But there is a way for a homeowner to save a little on their property taxes.

The 2010 Katy Home and Garden Show

Well the ball has dropped, confetti has been swept, and in some cases New Year’s resolutions have already been broken. 2010 is in full swing and in Katy Texas that can only mean one thing…it’s time for the Katy Home and Garden Show! The 4th annual Katy Home and Garden Show will be held on January 30-31 at the Merrell Center and Robinson Pavilion.

In These Cold Temperatures Remember the Three P's

It is going to get really cold in this area over the next few days.  For a native Houstonian like myself it feels down-right arctic right now.  The mercury will dip into the 20's in Houston for several hours over the next three days.  Here in Katy, we'll experience temperatures in the low 20's and possibly the high teens.  While many of us will warm above freezing during the day, our friends to the north in areas like Conroe could be below freezing for 36-48 hours straight!

Repairing Your Credit

We've all seen the ads with the pie in the sky claims.  "We can remove bankrupties" or "late pays and non payments will disappear".  The reality of the situation is that this is just not true.  Repairing your credit can be done, however the same rules that apply to all of us apply to these companies as well.

Best Burgers in Katy!

If you’ve lived in or around Katy, or visited for any length of time, then you know we have some amazing restaurants to enjoy. The area is rich with long time, locally owned establishments that offer great food at reasonable prices. I’m putting the locals on notice. There is an invasion happening right under your noses. And from the looks of things, this group is going to be here for a long, long time.

Rates Are on the Rise...What Should I Do?

If you are in the market for a new home, or if you are considering making the leap this year, then you certainly have taken notice that rates have risen over the past three weeks.  The "experts" are split down the middle on their predictions for the future.  Some cite the recovery of our economy and fear over rising inflation as reasons for a rise in the rates.  Others believe that a sluggish holiday for the retail sector coupled with high unemployment rates will cause a dip in rates.
