Don't Cry Over Spilled Wax

November 22, 2010

I love this time of year. Everybody seems to be burning those yummy smelling candles. The air is filled with all kinds of wonderful aromas, from apple spice to holiday evergreens. With all these candles burningCandles can help turn a house into a home, I guess it’s inevitable that some of us will have some spills this holiday season. Spilled candle wax can be a real hassle to deal with, but it doesn’t have to be. Here’s a tip to make clean up as easy as one, two, three.

  • Step One….get rid of as much wax as possible. Pick up as much wax as you can without disturbing the carpet too much. Getting rid of the excess will make step three much easier.
  • Step Two…you’ll need a paper grocery bag (they still make those) and an iron. Set the iron to warm and cut out a piece of the bag that will cover the spill and place it over the wax.
  • Step Three…Take the warm iron (warm, not hot!!) and place it on the bag, moving the iron in a circular motion over the wax spill. The wax will begin to liquefy and get soaked up by the paper bag. For large spills, move the bag so that a clean portion will be over the spill to soak up more wax. And that’s it!

Large spills may require more than one treatment. If so, get some ice to cool down the remaining wax and repeat the process from the beginning. Enjoy the holidays, and as always, I hope this helps.
