Homeowners Hope Congress Acts Quickly

September 21, 2010

We find ourselves once again waiting on our elected officials to make a decision to extend the National Flood Insurance Program.  The current status of the program is still up in the air, however, passage of an extension may come before the September 30 deadline.  This is an issue that has plagued us all year with a lapses in coverage lasting from a few days to several weeks.  We can only hope that our officials in Congress are watching the weather as closely as we are.

Katy Homeowners Driven Crazy by Crazy Ants

September 20, 2010

These little bugs are becoming quite a problem in Katy. Many Katy homes have been inundated by these pesky little critters. The main problem in your home is that they are just a nuisance. Take a look at this video taken by our trusted pest control professional, Scott McGrath, from McGrath Pest Control.

September 13, 2010

For many homeowners Firethorne offers tranquil surroundings, great schools, and convenience to work and play. For one family who recently purchased a new home, Firethorne included a special “bonus”. Our congratulations go out to Wendy and Glenn Ruppert. They just purchased their dream home in Firethorne, and, as it turns out, they are the 1000th home buyers in the community and they have been rewarded with a $1000 check!

Flood Insurance in Houston Just Makes Sense

August 27, 2010

Flood insurance has been a hot topic in real estate this year. I know that most have not heard too much about it. The headlines have all been about the recession, foreclosure rates, plummeting home values, and high unemployment. The National Flood Insurance Program has been allowed to lapse several times this year leaving all Americans in a bind, not just those in a flood zone. We currently are set through September 30, and an extension of the program is likely without a lapse, but there are no guarantees.

Upcoming Katy Area Events

August 22, 2010

If you find you’re bored and feel like there’s nothing to do then you are in luck. There’s always a lot going on in the Katy area. Here is a list of just some of the things coming up that can help keep you occupied.

Keeping Your Home Safe

Jackie and I have been REALTORS® for many years now, and we pride ourselves in our service before, during, and after the sale. Part of that service after the sale includes educating you on the potential hazards lurking in your home.

No Flood Insurance Yet Again

Our trusted lawmakers have done it again.  As a matter of fact, this is the third time they've done it to us in recent months.  The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) was allowed to once again expire.  This happened on May 31st and has not yet been renewed.  While lawmakers agree that it should be extended, they seem to be having a hard time agreeing on how this should happen.

Get Ready Katy for a Hot Dry Summer

While the beginning of summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, 2010, it feels like it started a couple of weeks ago. The hot temperatures made for a fantastic Memorial Day holiday, but if you take a short drive through some Katy neighborhoods you’ll see some lawns starting to brown and some plants beginning to wilt already. I think it’s safe to say that this summer will be a hot and dry one.

Katy Has a New Fresh Produce Market

Jackie and I like to eat fresh, so we tend to make a stop at the grocery store almost every day. Shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables around town is starting to feel a lot like a treasure hunt. It just seems like finding fresh produce at a reasonable price requires hours of research and plenty of luck. Grocers are using the term fresh loosely, items are pricey until they are put on sale, and the produce that is put on sale has been housed to the point that it is sad looking at best.
